Dr.
Leslie Van Romer |
Hello! I'm Dr. Leslie
Hello, my name is Dr. Leslie Van Romer, and I am thrilled to meet you.
Most people call me Dr. Leslie or Leslie, whichever is most comfortable
for you.
I know I should give you my credentials. I guess that’s
the "proper" thing to do. I promise I’ll get to that. First, allow me to
share my heart with you.
I love life. I love people. And I love
my work. I am as simple as that.
It just so happens that my life
and my work are all about people and helping them feel good about
themselves by consciously creating their ideal weights, bodies, and
lives by making one healthy choice at a time.
In fact, my friend,
my life and my work are all about you, if we are a good "fit" for one
another. I hope we are. I like you already, and I would love to get to
know you.
I have been blessed with the incredible opportunity of
giving direction and hope to thousands of people who are motivated and
committed to reclaiming their bodies, their health, and their lives.
I am continually humbled and honored by their trust and their
progress. And that's what this is about –
progress not perfection!
Nothing makes me happier than when one of you, after losing 20, 30, or
60 pounds or reaching a personal health goal, says to me: "I feel so
good about myself, Dr. Leslie."
You see, I believe that everyone
deserves to feel good about themselves, and if I can help you do just that, then my life’s mission, indeed my higher purpose,
is complete.
I hope that your weight, your body, and your life
are exactly where you’d like them to be, my friend. If they aren’t,
perhaps together, we can create the body you want and deserve to have.
You can be the hero of your dream-come-true.
Okay, now for
the "proper" stuff — my credentials.
I graduated with honors with a Bachelor
of Science degree from the State University of New York at Cortland. As
class valedictorian and summa cum laude, I obtained my Doctor of
Chiropractic from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in South
Carolina.
I have spent over thirty years building a thriving,
full-time practice in Sequim, Washington, giving weekly motivational
health presentations, and writing a monthly health newsletter, which
evolved into a weekly on-line letter.
Motivated by the desire
for better health for myself and my family, I early on began to look
into the roots of the diet most Americans unconsciously follow, with its
heavy emphasis on meat, cheese, milk, fats, oils, salt, white sugar,
refined breads, cereals, junk foods, and highly processed foods.
I made some changes, but the process was slow.
It wasn’t until my
own daughter, at eleven years old, had a weight problem that I became
acutely aware of the flaws in my own thinking and eating habits. I
couldn’t bear my daughter’s tears when she was too heavy to fit into a
favorite-styled pair of jeans. She just wanted to be like the other
girls.
There is nothing like a child’s pain to wake up a sleeping
mama bear. I talk about Nika in the introduction to my weight-loss book,
Getting into Your
Pants.
I took responsibility for myself and my three children and left
behind forever the foods we all grew up with and learned to love. I
adopted a plant-based diet, which evolved into predominantly whole,
fresh fruits and vegetables. (Not that you have to eat exactly like me
–– not at all. You can still eat your food faves. Just fill up on the best-for-you foods first.)
An interesting thing happened. I
thought I was just helping my daughter lose weight. As it turned
out, I had discovered my life’s mission.
The longer I ate the
best foods for weight loss and building health and fitness, the more I realized that the
poor health endured by many of the people seeking help at my clinic
could also be traced to the poor food choices they'd been brought up to
make, and their lack of daily exercise.
Inspired, I developed a
series of community motivational health presentations on topics such as:
weight loss, osteoporosis, diabetes, healthy eating plans, juicing,
protein and milk myths, and many more. I also designed a
coaching-and-mentoring program that provides the motivation, knowledge,
and specific guidance to help participants create relevant and personal
immediate and long-term weight, health, and fitness goals, and to
permanently achieve those goals with doable action steps. This program
wraps around my registered eating plan,
10+10 for Life®.
I have
helped thousands of people sort fact from fiction, make commonsense food
and lifestyle changes, and shed food misconceptions right along with excess
pounds.
I also just happen to walk my talk. I have to. This is
one field that it actually shows if you don’t practice what you preach.
Along with eating a plant-based diet, I stay trim and fit by exercising
at least an hour a day, 7 days a week.
Okay, I miss
occasionally, but it’s rare—there are eyes everywhere!
As I often
say to my patients, audiences, and coaching participants: “Eating
correctly and exercising don’t take time, they give you time—when it
counts—at the end of your life.”
I am the author of the spunky,
uplifting weight-loss books,
Getting into Your Pants,
and its companion workbook,
Getting into Your Pants
PlayBook.
Oh, by the way, as a single mom, I raised three children in the foothills of the
Olympic Mountains in Sequim, Washington. They are now young adults
and successfully finding their own paths.
Thank you for taking
your valuable time to get to know me. I can't wait to get to know you
too! Please know above all else, I believe you deserve to feel good
about you. I would be thrilled and honored if I can offer you simple
direction and hope so you can do exactly that
–
feel good about you. Laser into your
core and shine your uniqueness and brilliance on the world!
